When Lord Rama forwarded to battle-field for the final battle with Ravana who was mounted on the chariot well equipped with arms and guards, Vibhishana became disconcerted to see Lord Rama's position because he was without any such equipment. So he spoke to Lord Ram bowing his feet with tender heart " My Lord,you have no chariot nor any protection either for your body (in the shape of Armour)or for your feet (in the shape of shoes).How,then,can you expect to conquer this mighty hero? "
SUNEHU SAKHA KAH KRIPANIDHAANA, JEHIN JAI HOI SO SYANDAN AANAA.
(Listen friend: " replied the embodiment of grace, the chariot which leads one to victory is quite different. )
SAURAJ DHEERAJ TEHI RATH CHAAKA, SATYA SHEEL DRADH DHAWAJA PATAKA.
(Valour and fortitude are the wheels of that chariot,while truthfulness and good conduct are its enduring banner and standard.)
BAL VIVEK DAM PARHIT GHORE, CHHAMAA KRIPA SAMTA RAJU JORE.
(Even so Strength,Discretion,Self-control and Benevolence are its four horses,that have been joined to the chariot with the cords of Forgiveness,Compassion and Evenness of mind.)
EESH BHAJANU SAARATHI SUJAANA, BIRATI CHARM SANTOSH KRAPANA.
(Adoration of God is the expert charioteer;dispassion - the shield and contentment -the sword. )
DAAN PARASU BUDHI SHAKTI PRACHANDAA, BAR BIGYAAN KATHIN KODANDA.
(Again,Charity is the Axe; reason,the fierce lance and the highest wisdom,the relentless bow. )
AMAL ACHAL MANN TRON SAMANAA, SAM JAM NIYAM SILIMUKH NANA.
(A pure and steady mind is like a quiver; while quietude and various forms of abstinence (Yamas) and religious observances (Niyamas) are a sheaf of arrows. )
KAVACH ABHEDA VIPRA GURU POOJA, EHI SAM VIJAI UPAAYA NA DOOJA.
(Homage to the Brahmins and to one's own preceptor is an impenetrable coat of mail; there is no other equipment for victory as efficacious as this.)
SAKHA DHARAMMAI AS RATH JAAKE, JEETAN KAH NA KATEHU RIPU TAAKE.
(My friend,he who owns such a chariot of piety shall have no enemy to conquer anywhere. )
" MAHA AJAY SANSAAR RIPU JITI SAKAI SO BIR,
JAAKE AS RATH HOI DRADH SUNEHU SAKHA MATI DHEER. "
(" Listen,O friend of resolute mind;the hero who happens to be in possession of such a strong chariot can conquer even that mighty and invincible foe,attachment to the world.")
Hearing the Lord's words, Vibhishana clasped his lotus-feet in joy." You have utilized this opportunity to exhort me,O Ram,an embodiment of grace and bliss that you are. "
